At the time when city was busy with Holi celebrations, youngsters at PAWS-Mumbai were spreading awareness about sparrow conservation to mark March 20 as World Sparrow Day - India, Plant & Animals Welfare Society - India (PAWS-Mumbai) had recently launched "Sparrow Conservation Mission - SCM" and organised "Sparrow Drawing Competition" in association with AFTERNOON VOICE. Students displayed their affection for sparrow by sending drawings. The main objective of the event was to make students aware about the extinction of house sparrows in cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, etc.



Actor and Artist Rashmi Pitre had judged the entries send by students. Sagar Ajit Patrekar studying in8th standard from A, Dr. Antonio da Silva High School Dadar (W) was adjudged as the 1st, winner while Shilpa M Gupta studying in 7th standard at A, NES High School Bhandup (West) was declared the 2nd winner and Himanshu Surve from 5th standard G, New Horizon Public School Airoli was declared as 3rd winner. Priti Gupta studying in 3rd standard from B, NES High School Bhandup (West) had won My Sparrow Home as a consolation prize. All the winners will be notified through correspondence. A certificate of participation will be send to the respective schools of students that have participated in this competition. 

Speaking on this occasion Rashmi Pitre said "who can depict 'Sparrows' - the cute little innocent birds so beautifully than the kids themselves? I really appreciate PAWS-Mumbai's initiative of spreading awareness of sparrows among people. Kids have used innovative method and colours for displaying their creativity."

"S for Sparrow" is a book which contains collection of Poems, Paintings, Stories, etc related to Sparrows. PAWS-Mumbai invites poem, stories related with sparrows from students, celebrities and common people. The top 100 from each category will be published in this book. Participants can send their poems or story to s4sparrow@gmail.com. PAWS-Mumbai had organised an awareness programme from February 6 to 12 for observing the first "World Sparrow Week - WSW. The organisation had requested National & International  organisations to be a part of this programme for saving the chirping beauties.
